Courageous Women, Fearless Living

Photo of Sakyong Mipham RinpocheAS PART OF OUR EFFORTS TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY through expanded programming and outreach, this summer we will host our first women’s cancer retreat, Courageous Women, Fearless Living, August 18 – 23. We know grappling with cancer can be one of life’s greatest challenges. This retreat will provide women with the roadmap, guides and companions needed to navigate this potentially confusing, treacherous, heartbreaking terrain in the most enlightened and empowering way.

This is a unique five-day retreat based on Dr. Jeremy Geffen’s highly acclaimed book, The Journey Through Cancer: Healing and Transforming the Whole Person. Dr. Geffen, MD , will furnish a map to whole-person healing and transformation, and provide clear, cutting-edge information about cancer and conventional as well as complementary and alternative treatment options.

This retreat will bring together an extraordinary team of experts: Dr. Geffen, Tulku Thondup, Acharya Judith Lief, Linda Sparrowe and Sofia Diaz. Tulku Thondup will share esoteric Tibetan Buddhist healing visualizations and teach meditation techniques that awaken healing energies in the body and mind. Acharya Lief will provide instruction in basic meditation practice and show participants how to meet and hold all of their experience—their pain, fear, sorrow, anger, joy, gratitude—moment by moment and breath by breath. Yoga instructor Linda Sparrowe, who is committed to women’s health and well being, will lead gentle, transformative yoga sessions throughout the retreat. The program will also include a life assessment process, a sacred dance performance by Sofia Diaz, small group discussions, ritual and community building.

Transform the challenge of cancer.

Since dealing with cancer often involves considerable medical expense, we will offer as many scholarships as possible to those in need. If you would like to support our Courageous Women, Fearless Living scholarship fund, please contact Heather Philipp in the development office at (303) 545-0062.
