For decades the valleys and peaks of Shambhala Mountain Center have hosted thousands of visitors and extraordinary teachers. We are now in a vital stage where improving our fundamental infrastructure is key to the health of our land.
Pure Water Nourishes Growth
In 2009 we improved the quality and quantity of water we use. Now, we must take care of that water after its use by building a treatment plant that can return the water to the earth and meet all public safety standards.
A Pure Heart
Our aspiration to lead a life of compassionate action in the service of others and create a society based on human goodness is the same aspiration we have for living on this earth with respect and consideration for our environment.
Preparing for the future
When the wastewater system currently in place was created in 1985, it served only two buildings and far fewer people each year. Currently, we are hosting enough guests annually to use 3 million gallons of water annually.
Larimer County has put a moratorium on any new construction until an updated system is in place. A new treatment facility that takes our future needs and expanded capacity into consideration is under construction.
After a year of construction, the wastewater treatment plant tanks and operation building was completed in the early winter of 2011. Our next step is to complete the design and installation of the collection system that will bring the wastewater from buildings across the land to the plant. This winter we will be installing an interim system that will connect the current septic system to the plant, allowing us to bypass the old lagoon and wetlands system and come into regulatory compliance with the State of Colorado.
Upon completion of project, we will have the ability to treat 33,000 gallons of water each day allowing us to host 660 people per day. The system is designed with future expansion needs in mind.
Two years, two million dollars
The wastewater treatment facility will cost 2.1 million dollars to complete.
To date we have raised $1.4 Million! Thank you to all of our donors.
Shambhala Mountain Center is asking for your help to complete the next phase of our four-phase project.
