Title: Director of Development

Department: Development

Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises: Donor Data Associate & Grant Writer

Classification:  Core Staff / Full Time

Position Summary: Develops and executes Shambhala Mountain Center’s annual fundraising activities in conjunction with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Key goals include increasing the current base of donor support, cultivating and creating new avenues of donor income, creating a communication system with existing donors and initiating grant development. Position could be located at either SMC or in one of the cities along the Colorado Front Range.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and executes annual fundraising campaign
  • Develops and monitors annual fundraising goals in conjunction with the organization’s strategic objectives
  • Develops and directs capital campaigns for land and building maintenance
  • Works closely with the Directors of Marketing and Programs to ensure consistent messaging and execution of SMC goals and objectives
  • Identifies and cultivates prospective donors. Plans and organizes fundraising and donor appreciation events
  • Maintains an accurate donor database to ensure professional communications
  • Creates new fundraising vehicles which align with the Shambhala vision
  • Manages development staff and volunteers

Qualifications

  • Three to Five years of experience in non-profit development with a record of securing gifts from individual donors and foundations
  • Knowledge of fundraising practices and techniques, including grant development
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate the Shambhala vision and to genuinely connect with donors
  • Experience and skill in traditional fundraising but creative in ability to work with the unique traits of SMC
  • Familiarity with budgeting and database management
  • Good staff management skills as well as an overall quality orientation with attention to detail.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with practice and study experience in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition

Compensation:
  • 40-hours/week (FLSA Exempt)
  • Attend weekend programs at no cost
  • Personal days – 18/year.  program days- 15/year
