Shambhala Mountain Center
A LEARNING GROUND FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES
Providing Educational Opportunities for Students and Teachers
Located in a six hundred-acre mountain valley dotted with pine forests and meadows, Shambhala Mountain Center has offered eye-opening and heart-warming retreat programs since 1971. Drawing from ancient wisdom traditions, we offer our guests tools that help them meet the changing demands of modern life while enriching their own.
Shambhala Mountain Center provides students with an authentic cultural experience; opportunities for comparative studies; and hands-on exposure to Asian history and philosophy, cultural arts, ecology, land stewardship, and more. We help diverse groups plan custom programs that include field trips, extended fieldwork, environmental education, and immersion studies.
In 1999, Shambhala Mountain Center hosted its first multi-day immersion studies program for social studies students and has since collaborated with educators to develop multidisciplinary standards-based programs that combine hands-on experience in a variety of Eastern arts, including Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), calligraphy, kyudo (Japanese archery), and basic mindfulness practice.
Conveniently located just under two hours from Denver International Airport, Shambhala Mountain Center is home to two spectacular examples of sacred Buddhist architecture, The Great Stupa and the Kami Shrine, a simple, yet beautiful, structure built in the Shinto tradition. The Great Stupa, filled with original art and sculpture, preserves the endangered cultural heritage of Tibet.
Shambhala Mountain Center also offers:
• Eight miles of hiking trails
• Botanic Gardens
• Maitri Rooms
• Meditation Hall
• An extensive land stewardship program
Our quality facilities and expansive rural setting make for an ideal learning environment. We can host up to 50 students, depending on age, in a variety of housing options. The campus has two spacious meeting areas with adjacent kitchens and large dining space. Our rates include three wholesome meals per day, which can be customized for your group. We invite you and your students to visit and participate in our programs. Learn about our Pushpa Childcare service.
