Calgary Herald - January 7, 2006

Buddhist scholars and authors will act as tour guides on three trips this spring exploring Nepal and Tibet, Bhutan and Tibet's Mount Kailash.

Along with sightseeing, Authentic Asia is organizing an itinerary filled with lectures, discussions and optional meditation each day.

The journey to Bhutan, the last Buddhist kingdom, will take visitors to sacred places and monasteries from April 20 to May 4. Led by Judith Lief, former dean of Naropa University in Boulder, Colo., the trip costs $5,980 US.

The tour of Nepal and Tibet, $5,680 US, will take in the largest Buddhist temple in Nepal and the steppes and monasteries of central Tibet. The trip, May 7 to 21, will be led by Frank Berliner, a core faculty member at Naropa University, and Judith Simmer-Brown, a senior teacher of Shambhala Buddhism.

The final excursion is to Mount Kailash, a sacred pilgrimage site for practitioners of several religions including Buddhists, Hindus and Jains. Visitors will be accompanied by Lama Dudjom Dorje, who was born in Tibet and oversees a monastery there and is resident lama and spiritual adviser at a meditation centre in Dallas, Texas. The trip runs from May 30 to June 22 and costs $6,590 US.

Each tour includes economy airfare from Los Angeles. To book, call 1-888-586-9958 or e-mail tina@authenticasia.net.
