Earth, Water & Sun Series: Contemplative Climbing with Kay Peterson & Chad Bennett
June 8–10, 2007
This program has been cancelled.
At Shambhala Mountain, the land and other natural elements mix with our minds to create an unparalleled experience. This Retreat & Renewal weekend is designed especially for those who wish to learn climbing as a contemplative practice. By integrating the mindfulness technique of meditation into our climbing practice, we will enhance our ability to focus our energy, “see the bigger picture” aspect of strategic movement in climbing, and bring our mind and body into synchronicity on the rock. Yoga and other activities for renewing the body and mind will also be available.
Open to both beginners and experienced climbers. Participants must be sufficiently fit to hike at altitudes of 10,000 to 12,000 feet and to gain 1,000 to 2,000 feet in elevation in a few hours’ time.
Kay Peterson is a psychotherapist with more than 15 years of experience facilitating transitions for individuals and groups in conventional, outdoor and wilderness settings. A Certified Wilderness First Responder, she is also a Shambhala Meditation Instructor.
Chad Bennett has worked since 2000 as an instructor and course director for Outward Bound in Colorado. He spends his winters in India, coordinating retreats and practicing in the Insight Meditation tradition.
Note: Participants are required to provide their own helmet and shoes, which can be rented at REI stores. Harnesses will be provided but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have one.
Financial aid is available for this program.
