Earth, Water, & Sun Series: Contemplative Hiking with Kay Peterson

August 6 – 9, 2009

One mountain. One blade of grass. Every step.
Take time out to discover how nature offers us the opportunity to learn to relax with things as they are. We will explore how resting the mind in meditation can help bring greater ease to physical activity, as well as to the challenges of our everyday lives. We will share hiking as a contemplative practice, exploring the land and surrounding trails of the Roosevelt National Forest through hikes of mild to moderate degrees of difficulty. Yoga and other activities for renewing the body and mind will also be included.

Kay Peterson is a psychotherapist and wilderness guide who facilitates contemplative outdoor adventures in the mountain and coastal ranges of the west. She has designed programs and nurtured organizational collaborations with companies such as Outward Bound, USA, and Balanced Rock Foundation that integrate the power of outdoor adventure experiences with the depth of meditative awareness. She is currently working with the regional leadership of Northern California Shambhala to continue to develop sustainable and enlightened community in Northern California and beyond.

Also offered June 26 to 28.
