Feeling the Alphabet of the Body: Immersion into the Relationship Between Sanskrit & Asana with Katyayani Poole & Jeanie ManchesterSeptember 18 – 20, 2009
This program has been canceled.
Sanskrit is the language of yoga. Its 50 distinct sounds enliven and awaken the inner core, uniting body, breath, and spirit. For thousands of years, the sonic technology of Sanskrit has been revered as the most powerful method for experiencing the higher and subtler limbs of yoga. In this workshop, you will experience how the precise pronunciation of Sanskrit refines the nervous system and prepares us for profound meditation. You will learn about Sanskrit’s role in yoga’s long tradition and its importance to practice, be introduced to the connection between the Sanskrit names of the yoga postures and their profound effect on awakening deep awareness of the subtle body, and experience the ancient art of Vedic chanting. Katyayani Poole, PhD, earned her master's in Sanskrit and doctorate in religious studies from the University of California and lived in India for five years apprenticing with masters of yoga and Sanskrit. She is cocreator of the Shruti Institute for Vedic Arts, author of Sanskrit for Yogis, and a Vedic astrologer. Jeanie Manchester, a certified Anusara teacher, has studied closely with master teachers John Friend, Dr. Douglas Brooks, and Richard Freeman. Her classes blend the precision of the universal principles of alignment with story and myth as a means to take us deeper into the mystery of the yogic process. Please arrive between 2 and 4pm. Program ends with lunch at 12:30. View Detailed Program Information. |
