The Six Dharmas of Naropa: The Path of Transformation with Elizabeth Callahan & Andrew Holecek

October 23 – November 1, 2009

Join us for this precious opportunity to receive these powerful tantric practices.
This program has been canceled.

The Six Dharmas of Naropa are the crown jewels of the Kagyu path, and the completion stage practices of both Vajrayogini and Chakrasamvara. These profound methods are designed to transform our daily life, sleep, dreams, and death. The Six Dharmas show us how to enter lifetime retreat in the midst of normal life.

This program begins with chandali, vase breathing, and basic trulkhor (yogic exercises), but places equal emphasis on the remaining dharmas. With chandali comes the bliss of melting duality, which brings an openness that allows us to mingle with this brilliant yet illusory daytime world, and the nighttime world of dreams and deep sleep. After exploring and practicing these four root dharmas, the program concludes with a presentation of bardo and phowa.

Elizabeth Callahan and Andrew Holecek will be co-teaching this program. Due to a prior commitment, Elizabeth will only be able to attend the first four days of the program. During this time she will teach on the practice of chandali. Andrew will be teaching the remaining yogas.

Prerequisite: Vajrayogini Amending the Mantra Fire Puja

Elizabeth Callahan completed the three-year retreat under Kalu Rinpoche’s direction and is a longtime student of Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. She has served as the translator for many teachings on the Six Dharmas, including those given by Tenga Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim. Elizabeth has also taught numerous Four Root Dharmas programs, emphasizing the ways to take these techniques as daily practice. She is currently working on Rangjung Dorje’s Profound Inner Reality as a fellow of the Tsadra Foundation and on other long-term translation projects with Marpa Foundation under the guidance of Khenpo Tsültrim.

Andrew Holecek has completed the traditional three-year meditation retreat and is the founder of the Forum of Living and Dying, which offers seminars around the country on death and dying. He writes a column for
Bodhi Magazine and his book on spiritual hardship, The Power and The Pain, is forthcoming from Snow Lion.

Our intent is to encourage and support intensive practice opportunities for Shambhala community members. Therefore we are making this program available to all qualified practitioners by offering it under Shambhala Mountain's generosity policy. The policy provides the opportunity for participants to pay what they can afford by selecting one of three pricing options. The first option is Shambhala Mountain's regular room and board rates.

For those who can not afford to pay our regular room and board rates, our second option is a flat room and board rate of $70 per night. Your accommodations will be the best we have available (up to single Lodge room with shared bathroom facilities) after accommodating all participants paying our regular rates. Priority for best-available housing will be on a first-come first-served basis. We will not be able to confirm which housing you will be assigned until one week prior to the program start date.

For those requiring substantial financial assistance, our third option is the same as the second option except the flat room and board rate is $40 per night. Again, housing is best available (up to single Lodge room with shared bathroom facilities) on a first-come first-served basis. Please understand that we are not able to provide student or senior discounts at this rate.

There will also be an opportunity during the program to offer a teachers gift.
