Peaceful Confidence: Revisiting the Sangha Retreat with Acharya Adam Lobel

February 4 – 7, 2010

We are offering this special program at discounted rates for dormitory accommodations.
In the midst of the winter, we are pleased to announce that we will revisit the warmth of this summer's Sangha Retreat with a weekend workshop with Acharya Adam Lobel. The Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Ani Pema Chödrön have asked Shambhala Mountain Center to continue with the strength, community, and kindness of the Sangha Retreat, and we are happy to extend an invitation for anyone to join us, whether you were with us this summer or not.

Jumping off from the strength and gentleness of meditation practice, we will explore the meaning of genuine, unconditional confidence. In the Shambhala Buddhist teachings, confidence radiates from a peaceful state that is free from struggle and aggression. In order to discover this state, it means learning to smile at our own fear, and experience genuine fearlessness. Relying on the practice of meditation and exercises to understand our own mind, this workshop focuses on revealing the simple human confidence that we all have. The warmth, kindness, and community that we began to build together this past summer will be our support on this journey. Come and meet old friends, and practice together. All are welcome, whether you have been to previous Sangha Retreats or not.

Mark your calendars for our summer 2010 Sangha Retreat with Acharyas Pema Chödrön and Adam Lobel August 25th to September 1st.

Acharya Adam Lobel leads meditation workshops as well as courses on Buddhist philosophy and the social vision of Shambhala. The Acharya for the Mipham Academy, an advanced, annual intensive for Buddhist philosophical and contemplative studies at Karme Choling in Vermont, he also teaches meditation to youths within the prison system and a mental health institution. Adam holds a Master's of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School, where he is helping to establish a track for Buddhist ministers and chaplains. His research focuses on philosophy, phenomenology, meditation, and the Great Perfection tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
