Opening the Good Eye: Miksang Photography Level 1 with Michael Wood & Julie DuBoseMay 28 – 31, 2010
Opening the Good Eye is an introduction to the discipline and delight of direct seeing and perception-based photography. We begin to develop the ability to synchronize our mind and eye so that our habitual patterns of seeing and labeling dissolve in a moment of stunning, vivid perception. Through visual exercises and assignments we develop confidence in our ability to connect directly with what we see, stay full present with the perception as we fully understand its qualities, and then express our experience precisely with our cameras.
Each day begins with visual exercises followed by a shooting assignment. After lunch we meet for editing, discussion, and a sharing of images. Evenings are free for relaxing, socializing and recharging for the next day. All in all it’s good fun for all of us. Monday ends at 5pm, so please don’t book any flights out for that day, or you will miss out on the final day’s discussion and image viewing. Michael Wood has been developing, practicing and teaching Miksang Contemplative Photography for the past 30 years in North America and Europe. After a successful career as a professional photographer in Canada, Michael began to experience the arising of fresh perceptions based on his meditation practice and study of Chögyam Trungpa Dharma Art Teachings. This led to the development of the Miksang Level One curriculum of study. Julie DuBose has been studying and practicing Miksang Photography for 12 years. She is one of the principal Miksang Instructors and teaches all Miksang Levels. Julie became a student of Tibetan Buddhist meditation master Chogyam Trungpa, the author of Dharma Art, in 1975. She lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1990 to 2006 where she first began studying Miksang with Michael Wood. Please arrive between 2 and 5pm on the 28th. The program ends at 5pm on the 31st.
