Compassion in the Rockies: His Holiness the Dalai Lama

September - 17, 2006

We unfortunately no longer have any space available for this program and the waitlist is closed. If you would like to see the Dalai Lama during his visit to Colorado, tickets are still available for his September 17th afternoon talk at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Join us to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama's first visit to Shambhala Mountain Center. This will be a culmination of a weekend of meditation and conversation with Sakyong Mipham.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit and bless the The Great Stupa and will speak about how we can awaken compassion to bring peace to our lives and the world. We invite you to join us at our breathtaking mountain sanctuary for this special occasion.

Living Peace Award citation.

The program will take place Sunday, September 17. Please arrive by 7:30am. Because we have limited parking available at Shambhala Mountain Center, we are asking everyone to carpool. Please visit our rideshare board if you are looking for or would like to offer a ride.

Please note that the rate for the program below is the entrance fee for the talk only; it does not include accommodations (tent or otherwise) or meals.

We do have some limited housing for Sunday evening. If you are interested please contact our call center at 1-888-STUPA-21 (9-5pm MT).

Also note that each individual wishing to attend this program must register separately. You can hit the backward button after you register first person to save time.

We have designed a commemorative poster to celebrate this auspicious event, which you can purchase at the event or on-line at our giftstore.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk, scholar, and the temporal and religious leader of the Tibetan people. Since 1959, when the Communist Chinese invaded Tibet, forcing the Dalai Lama into exile, he has emerged as an international statesman for peace. His consistent refusal to adopt the use of violence in Tibet’s struggle for freedom won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 and the respect of the world community. He is recognized internationally as a champion of human rights; an environmentalist; and an advocate of religious tolerance, compassion and personal responsibility.

The registration date for this program has already passed.

How to Practice: The Way to a Meaningful Life by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

The only way to achieve lasting peace is through mutual trust, respect, love, and kindness. The only way. Attempts by global powers to dominate one another through competition in armaments—whether nuclear, chemical, biological, or conventional—is counterproductive. How can a world full of hatred and anger achieve real peace? External peace is impossible without inner peace. It is noble to work at external solutions, but they cannot be successfully implemented so long as people have hatred and anger in their minds. This is where profound change has to begin. Individually we have to work to change the basic perspectives on which our feelings depend. We can only do so through training, by engaging in practice with the aim of gradually reorienting the way we perceive ourselves and others.

The desperate state of our world calls us to action. Each of us has a responsibility to try to help at the deeper level of our common humanity.
