Death & the Art of Dying Part 2: The Luminous Bardo of Dharmata with Andrew Holecek

September 29 - October 1, 2006

In this seminar, we will address the second death bardo, “The Luminous Bardo of Dharmata.” As emphasized in The Tibetan Book of the Dead, this is where our greatest opportunity for liberation arises. If we are not prepared, however, this daunting bardo can flash by completely unrecognized, and this precious opportunity is lost.

Exploring what we may encounter in this transition, we will become familiar with the peaceful and wrathful deities, and discover how to penetrate their true nature. We will also work with The Tibetan Book of the Dead, learning how to use it to serve others, and practice meditations designed to facilitate our own transition through this challeging yet rich bardo.

[Part 3: The Karmic Bardo of Becoming, will be offered Spring 2007; Part 4: Helping Yourself & Others Before, During & After Death, Fall 2007.]

Andrew Holecek, DDS, has been studying and practicing the meditative traditions since 1975. A faculty member of the Ngedon School of Higher Studies, he has completed the traditional three-year retreat and has founded the Death College, a venue for the intensive exploration of death, dying and rebirth. As the cofounder of a charity that provides health care to children in India and Nepal, he spends several months a year in Asia. These travels over the past ten years have allowed him to study the bardos directly with some of the greatest masters in Tibetan Buddhism.
