Vajra Dawn: Uncovering Peace with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Richard Reoch, Acharya Adam Lobel, Laura Simms & Louis Gakumba
|
September 13 - 16, 2007 THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN POSTPONED. NEW DATES TO BE DETERMINED.
In a world of conflict, where establishing peace eludes human society generation after generation, how do we uncover peace in our own lives? How do we embody the change we wish to see in the world? Join both beginning and advanced students of the Vajra Dawn generation (those ages 18 to 30) in this rare occasion to receive teachings from an authentic lineage, engage in genuine practice and reflect deeply about the true meaning of peace.
Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche is the head of the Shambhala lineage. An incarnation of Mipham the Great, he is also the dharma heir and son of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Shambhala Mountain’s founder. He is the spiritual director of Shambhala, a global network of meditation and retreat centers, and the author of the best-selling books Turning the Mind into an Ally and Ruling Your World. Rinpoche’s background embraces both Eastern and Western cultures. Born in Bodhgaya, India, the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment, he grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and received his spiritual training from his father and other distinguished lamas.
Richard Reoch is the president of Shambhala. Born into a Buddhist family in Canada, he has devoted his working life to defending human rights, protecting the environment and promoting peace. Formerly global media chief of Amnesty International, Richard is a trustee of the Rainforest Foundation, and he heads the International Working Group on Sri Lanka, dedicated to ending the Buddhist world’s longest running war.
Acharya Adam Lobel has lived and studied Buddhism in monasteries in Tibet, Nepal and India. One of the coeditors of Turning the Mind into an Ally, he has created meditation programs based on this book. Adam is currently pursuing graduate studies in Buddhism at the Harvard Divinity School.
Laura Simms is a senior teacher of Shambhala Buddhism and Shambhala Arts, as well as a professional storyteller, writer and activist working worldwide for peace and human rights. A fellow at The Arthur Mauro Peace and Justice Center in Manitoba, she also co-teaches the Next Generation Environmental Program for the Murie Center for the Environment in Wyoming. Laura is developing an initiative to create a social service network for Shambhala.
Louis Gakumba lived through the genocide in Rwanda. He learned English and served as a translator for Barefoot Artists and at the Truth and Reconciliation trials in Kigali, Rwanda. Presently attending college in Salt Lake City, Utah, Louis is also involved in the Next Generation project sponsored by the Murie Center. Louis is the adopted son of naturalist, environmental activist and writer Terry Tempest Williams.
When registering for the program, please tell us in the "comments" field of your registration if you are a Vajrayana student, and, if so, what your current practice is. Also let us know if you are a member of the Dorje Kasung.
