Death & the Art of Dying: The Blissful Pure Lands with Andrew Holecek
|
November 30 - December 2, 2007 After we die, the best place we can go is a Pure Land, a magical paradise as real as Earth yet free of suffering. Endowed with miraculous powers and living in conditions that promote rapid spiritual progress, all born there are assured of attaining enlightenment and being of greater service to others. In this place of great bliss, we have no choice but to evolve. In this retreat, we will discover more about these lands and practice meditations that will lead us there. Rarely offered in the West, Pure Land teachings prepare us for the best rebirth in our next life—or the next moment.
Andrew Holecek, DDS, has been studying and practicing the meditative traditions since 1975. A faculty member of the Ngedon School of Higher Studies, he has completed the traditional three-year retreat and has founded the Death College, a venue for the extensive exploration of death, dying and rebirth. As cofounder of a charity that provides health care to children in India and Nepal, he spends several months a year in Asia. These travels, which began in 1995, have allowed him to study the bardos directly with some of the greatest masters in Tibetan Buddhism. Andrew has a column on death and dying in Bodhi Magazine.
