Introduction to Kyudo: Cultivating the Genuine Heart of Warriorship with Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei
|
June 12 - 15, 2008 Traditionally regarded as the highest form of samurai training, Japanese archery has evolved over the centuries into a powerful path of cultivating meditative awareness and self-realization. Known as “standing Zen,” Kyudo polishes the heart so that our natural dignity and goodness can shine forth. In Kyudo, the target serves as a reflection of our quality of mind, rather than as a goal to be attained. Because of this, practicing Kyudo does not require physical strength. Adults and children age nine or above are welcome. This program will include personal instruction from Shibata Sensei and senior students in his school, Zenko International. Equipment will be provided as part of the program.
Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei, is a 20th-generation Kyudo master and 3rd-generation bowmaker to the Emperor of Japan. He was invited to the West in 1980 by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Together they founded kyudojos (practice halls) in North America and Europe under the auspices of Zenko International. Having trained in Kyudo since childhood, Shibata Sensei, now in his eighties, is the preeminent teacher in the Way of the Bow.
The registration date for this program has already passed.
