Backpacking Pilgrimage to the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya with Kay Peterson & Chad BennettJuly 9 – 18, 2010
This program is canceled.
Join us for an inspiring journey of mind, body, and soul. Trekking from Vagabond Ranch in the Never Summer Mountains near Granby, Colorado, we will explore the grandeur of Rocky Mountain National Park, then make our way to our pilgrimage destination — the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya. Backpacking approximately fifty-five miles through some of Colorado’s most spectacular mountain ranges, we will also traverse the open terrain of our personal and collective experiences of meditation, mindful movement, quiet contemplation, and community. Daily mindfulness and awareness practices inspired by nature will provide the foundation for this profound journey. The cost of this spectacular journey is $1395, which includes tuition, lodging for first & last nights, meals, group backpacking gear (tents, cooking equipment, etc.) & fees. To register for this program or for more information, please contact Vagabond Ranch at (800) 926-4386 or (303) 242-5338, or visit www.vagabondranch.org. PLEASE NOTE: THIS PROGRAM IS RESCHEDULED FOR 2011; DATES TBA. Kay Peterson, M.A., is a psychotherapist and wilderness guide who has facilitated contemplative outdoor adventures for over fifteen years. She co-founded "Inward Journey/Outward Bound" in collaboration with Outward Bound, USA and continues to design and lead programs throughout the west that integrate the power of outdoor adventure experiences with the depth of meditative awareness. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Northern California Shambhala - a regional community of Shambhala practitioners that work together to make meaningful contributions to the larger communities within which they reside. Chad has enjoyed solitude, especially in the outdoors, from an early age. He formally stumbled upon the Dharma while volunteering as an English teacher in Thailand and still considers the wilderness, in its raw changeable beauty, to be his primary teacher. An Outward Bound instructor for over a decade, he co-founded “Inward Journey/Outward Bound©” in collaboration with Shambhala Mountain Center. These programs integrated solitude and meditation with camping skills and physical movement activities including backpacking, and rock climbing. Since 2004, Chad has spent his winters in India, on pilgrimage and practicing meditation. |
