Boulder Peace RideSeptember 10 – 15, 2010
In 2009 a group of mountain bike riders were inspired to "bike for peace", taking a bicycling pilgrimage to the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya at Shambhala Mountain Center and raising money for two charitable organizations dedicated to peace. Last year's ride was so successful that this year two such pilgrimages have been created, one for mountain bikers and one for road riders. All riders will begin and end each day at the same location but take separate routes to arrive at that day's destination.
The organizations the riders will be fundraising for include The Surmang Project and Shambhala Mountain Center. The Surmang Project's purpose is to rebuild an important monastery in Tibet which was destroyed in the 1950's. The Project also supports the humanitarian needs of people in the Surmang area. Shambhala Mountain Center, the site of the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya, helps people from all walks of life to cultivate inner peace through meditation, yoga and other retreat practices in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Itinerary: Sept. 10: Send off ceremony in Boulder to Shoshone Yoga Retreat Center Sept. 11: Shoshone Yoga Retreat Center to Devil’s Thumb Ranch or nearby house Sept. 12: Devil’s Thumb Ranch to Vagabond Ranch Sept. 13: Vagabond Ranch to Nokhu Hut Sept. 14: Nokhu hut to The Great Stupa Of Dharmakaya Sept. 15: Return to Boulder This event is being organized by Vagabond Ranch in Granby, Colorado, one of the overnight stops on this adventure.
