The Wisdom of a Broken Heart with Susan PiverJanuary 28 – 30, 2011
In Shambhala Buddhism, a broken heart is not a problem to be solved, but a remarkable opportunity to discover wisdom. Discover the skills needed to work with a broken heart - not to drive it away or tie it up with a bow, but to find the messages contained in this most difficult situation. Through meditation, the practice of maitri, or "loving-kindness," and some on-the-spot techniques, we can learn to stabilize our hearts in a state of openness embracing the dark power of heartbreak as a means to uncover our own innate gentleness, fearlessness, and intelligence. We'll discuss how painful emotions can be aspects of wisdom, contemplate our history of heartbreak, and shift the emphasis from finding love to offering it. Whether broken yesterday or years ago, if we stay with our broken heart, it will surely lead us down the path to wisdom.
Susan Piver is the New York Times bestselling author of four books and a frequent contributor to Shambhala Sun and Body+Soul. She has been authorized to teach meditation in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage since 2006. Her latest book is The Wisdom of a Broken Heart.
