No Hope, No Fear: Warrior Heart with Frank Berliner

September 22 – 24, 2006

As we meet our fears with a warrior heart, we uncover the joyful, sad and tender heart that makes our lives utterly worth living.
If we look honestly at our lives, we can see they are pervaded by an unending dance between hope and fear. The teachings of Shambhala invite us to live with an unflinching awareness of this truth, rather than look for a path that will somehow avoid it.

According to the teachings of Shambhala, becoming a warrior means learning not to be afraid of who we are. Because this is so, fear is always regarded by the warrior-in-training as an opportunity to embrace, rather than a threat to avoid. In fact, the greater our willingness to turn toward our fear, the greater our potential to access our inherent confidence and wakefulness. For within and beyond the fear lies our deepest human treasure—that joyful, sad and tender heart that makes our lives utterly worth living. We will explore this consideration through lecture, discussion, guided meditation and poetry.

No Hope, No Fear: Sacred Wisdom will be held in December 2006.

Frank Berliner is a core faculty member at Naropa University, where he teaches Buddhist and Western humanistic psychology. A long-standing student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, he has served as national director for Shambhala Training. He maintains a private practice as a psychotherapist and organizational consultant in Boulder, Colorado.
