Chushu (Autumn Moon) Kyudo Gathering with Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei

September 1 – 3, 2006

A very special opportunity to practice Kyudo, Japanese archery, under the Chushu moon with a renowned master, Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei. Beginners welcome!
Traditionally regarded as the highest form of samurai training, Japanese archery evolved over the centuries into a powerful, highly refined contemplative practice. Known as “standing Zen,” Kyudo, the way of the bow, polishes the heart so that our natural dignity and goodness can shine forth. According to Shibata Sensei, “Chushu, the autumn moon, is the largest, most beautiful, clear moon of all seasons. This gathering will provide an auspicious opportunity for everyone to practice together with hearts as big, open and clear as the autumn moon. Together, we can clean the obstacles that have arisen due to politics style thinking and petty arguments that seem to separate us.” Everyone is invited to attend: young and old, beginners and seasoned practitioners, individuals and families.

Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei, is a twentieth generation Kyudo master and third-generation bowmaker to the Emperor of Japan. He was invited to the West in 1980 by Chögyam Trungpa, with whom he founded Ryuko Kyudojo in Boulder, Colorado. Since then, he has traveled and taught extensively in the West, establishing Kyudo practice halls throughout North America and Europe.
