Shamatha Project with B. Alan Wallace

September 3 – December 8, 2007

Participate an intensive long-term meditation retreat under the direction of a leading Western scholar of the integration of science and meditation.
If you have been longing to engage in intensive practice in a retreat environment, join us for this three-month program, during which we will combine rigorous meditation practice (8 to 10 hours daily) with instruction in various forms of shamatha (“calm abiding”) practice drawn from the Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist traditions. We will also work with cultivating the Four Immeasurables: lovingkindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity. Limited space available and admittance is by application. To request an application, email shamatha@shambhalamountain.org.

B. Alan Wallace, PhD, is the founder and president of the Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies. Combining 14 years of training as a Tibetan Buddhist monk with degrees in physics, the philosophy of science and religious studies, he is involved in integrating Buddhist contemplative practices and Western science to advance the study of the mind.

The cost of lodging and meals for this retreat is $5,820, due as follows:

Initial deposit: $500 due upon registration (reflected in the registration box below)
Second payment: $1,800 due April 1, 2007
Third payment: $1,800 due June 1, 2007
