Running with the Mind of Meditation with Sakyong Mipham RinpocheSeptember 13 – 16, 2007
Distance running or walking is often the exercise of choice for reducing stress, bringing us greater perspective and connecting us directly to the wisdom of the body. Practicing shamatha meditation offers similar benefits, helping us cultivate stillness and nonjudgmental awareness of the mind's activities. Join meditation teacher and marathon veteran Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, who will share his experiences and insights on how the practice of meditation can enhance our running—and bring more satisfaction to our life. The program will include meditation instruction and practice, yoga for runners, group discussion and opportunities for practicing contemplative running on beautiful Rocky Mountain trails.
Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche is the head of the Shambhala lineage. An incarnation of Mipham the Great, he is also the dharma heir and son of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Shambhala Mountain’s founder. He is the spiritual director of Shambhala, a global network of meditation and retreat centers, and the author of the best-selling books Turning the Mind into an Ally and Ruling Your World. Rinpoche’s background embraces both Eastern and Western cultures. Born in Bodhgaya, India, the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment, he grew up in Boulder, Colorado, and received his spiritual training from his father and other distinguished lamas. Taking great joy in running, the Sakyong will be running his eighth marathon this October.
