Participation: Participation in the entire Assembly is required
Payment: A deposit of 50% of the total program cost is due upon registration. The full remaining balance is due on June 26th, 2014, 30 days prior to your arrival date.
Shambhala Benefits: Please note that the following are current benefits that are subject to change in 2014. Shambhala Benefits are for full or part-time paid employees of Shambhala (benefits differ). Shambhala Benefits are for Tent Double housing. If you would like to upgrade your housing, you must pay the upgrade. If you have questions about Shambhala Benefits, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are eligible for Shambhala Benefits, please select Tent Double as your housing, write your intention in the Comments/Special Needs section of the SMC registration form, and choose “Pay by check.”
Cancellation Policy: This cancellation policy for Enlightened Society Assembly supersedes all other SMC cancellation policies.
Upon cancellation of registration for any reason, participants will incur a cancellation fee of the greater of $100 or 10% of the total reservation charges.
Cancellations made before June 15th, 2014 will be refunded, minus the cancellation fee. Cancellations made after June 15th will not be refunded but will be applied to program credit, minus the cancellation fee. In cases where a registrant waives a refund and accepts program credit as compensation, they will receive full credit plus 10%. This credit can be used on other programs at SMC within two years of the initial registration date.
Financial Aid: Please apply for Financial Aid through Shambhala International, using the form provided within the program application here. Financial aid cannot be combined with any other form of price-break. If it is, we will choose the lesser of the options.
Materials Fee: There will be a materials fee in addition to the tuition that all participants need to pay prior to the Assembly. This fee is currently being finalized. You will be informed of the exact amount in your acceptance letters. (In previous years, the materials fee was approximately $150.)
Ashe Acharya John Rockwell first met Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1975 and entered the Buddhist and the Shambhala path. Over the many years of his journey, he taught Buddhist Studies at Naropa University, was co-director of Karme Choling, and was Director of Shambhala International. In 1996, he was named an acharya (senior teacher) by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and in 2001 was appointed the Ashe Acharya, in charge of the Shambhala Office of Practice and Education. For seven years he was resident acharya at Karme Choling in Vermont. During this time, he studied Taoist qigong with Eva Wong who authorized him to teach. Due to a long-time passion for the forest and nature, he is engaged in a naturalist training course with the Wilderness Awareness School. He now lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia with his wife and travels internationally to teach.
Melissa Moore, PhD., has been a Shambhalian since 1979. She received her Master’s degree from Naropa and a PhD in Psychological Anthropology from California Institute of Integral Studies. She became an Acharya (most senior teacher in the Shambhala tradition) in 2012. She co-founded, and is a head teacher in, The Karuna Training, a two-year professional training program in contemplative Psychology now offered in 7 Countries. Dr. Moore has worked in community behavioral health for several years and was the founding director of The Felton Institute, a mental health research and training Institute in San Francisco from 2005 – 2016.
