Mahasangha Gathering Childcare

July 22–25, 2021

Sliding Scale: 150-200 per child. Please review information below prior to registration

Welcome to Mahasangha Childcare! Juliet Shapiro is coordinating, email her with any questions you have (see below). We will have children ages 2-12 together in Shotoku, led by the fabulous Julie Johnson. Julie has over 20 years of experience working with children of all ages, including a Montessori teaching credential.  She’s worked at places like Alaya Preschool, as well as Family Camp held at Shambhala Mountain Center.  Her plan includes lots of outdoor activities, song dance, and art all suitable for the mixed age group.

Cooperative Model

We are operating on a co-operative model, which means the second adult (which is mandatory for a group this size) will be us, the parents! Your ROTA will be an hour and a half spent with Julie and the kids at Shotoku DURING PROGRAM TIME. This is essential to us being able to have childcare this year; your participation is crucial and very much appreciated.

Important Guidelines & Registration Information

  • No child under the age of 18 may be unsupervised on the land at any time.
  • All parents will need to sign up for at least one ROTA shift with the Childcare during the program.
  • Please make sure each child has adequate outdoor gear as they will be outside a lot! Baseball cap & SPF 30 is MINIMUM for sun protection, plus good raincoat, sweater, and sturdy shoes (hiking ideal) for uneven ground with cactus.
  • There is no additional lodging or meal charge for children as long as they are in the same lodging as their parents.
When registering, please name yourself in the main contact fields, and please do repeat your OWN medical and diet sections as you did on your Mahsanagha registration initially. Include your child’s medical and diet issues in their child-specific section.
In the comments/special needs section, for each child, please be sure to include the following:
  • Psychological or Medical history/conditions that may affect child’s participation
  • Altitude/respiratory issues
  • Any specific coping strategies we can encourage/implement if child is upset

These questions will be kept confidential and used only to better serve the needs of each child.
