This morning program will give instructions on Shamatha, the practice of calm abiding from the Buddhist tradition. The retreat will provide simple easy instruction to help start your day well. It will also provide simple practical advice that you can take away and bring into your daily life and practice, with the aim of developing resilience, stability, and present mind responses to the challenges we face.

The time will alternate between sitting and walking and Q&A. Have a quiet space. You are allowed to have your screen off to avoid burnout.

This rate is available to any Black / Indigenous / person of color, to offset the economic privilege granted to all non-Black and non-Indigenous folx by the white supremacist capitalist system within which we all operate, irrespective of whether that person currently possesses wealth privilege.

Registration closes two hours before the start of the program.

Recording

Portions of this program will be recorded and registered participants will have viewable access to the recordings for one week after the program ends.

Presenters

Dr. Amelia Hall

Dr. Amelia Hall is an assistant professor of Buddhism and department chair in the wisdom traditions department at Naropa University. She gained her PhD. in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies from the University of Oxford in 2012. She has taught and developed courses on Buddhism at Central Michigan University and Antioch University Buddhist Studies Abroad Program. She has practiced Dharma for 20 years and is currently working on a book on the Four Noble Truths, forthcoming from Shambhala Publications.

Program Details

After registration, you will receive an email with simple instructions for downloading and using Zoom on your computer, laptop, or other device. At least 24 hours before the start time, a link to join the retreat will be sent to you via email.
