Samu is a Zen term that refers to the physical work necessary to maintain the Zen monastery. It can also be a powerful practice of meditation in action. “Mindfulness is a process of growth and maturing that happens gradually rather than suddenly,” writes Chögyam Trungpa in Mindfulness in Action.
Join us for this day of retreat as we cultivate mindfulness in the context of meditation, contemplation and doing ordinary activities. To nurture mindfulness as the process of growth that Trungpa Rinpoche describes, we begin with sitting meditation, with simple guided instruction. We then explore the four foundations of mindfulness in a group context, followed by instructions for engaging in work practice using mindfulness and awareness.
Work periods are followed by discussion, more meditation, and short periods of yoga or walking meditation. You are invited to deepen your connection to mindfulness and awareness both on and off the cushion, bridging meditation and post-meditation experience with continuity of mind.
