If your preferred lodging type is not available please register for an available option and then indicate your lodging preference under “Room Waitlist.”  If your lodging preference becomes available we will offer you the upgrade. Lodge Housing will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

Land Closure Policy:

Due to the nature of this program, family members or friends of Scorpion Seal participants are not permitted to stay at Shambhala Mountain Center from July 13th to July 24th.

Participation in the entire Assembly is required.


To reserve your spot, 50% of lodging cost and 50% of tuition deposit is due upon registration.

The full remaining balance is due 30 days prior to your arrival date

Cancellation Policy: 

If you cancel 14 or more calendar days prior to your arrival date, payments made will be refunded in full (less a 5% processing fee). If you cancel between 13 and 2 calendar days prior to your scheduled arrival date, nonrefundable program credit in the amount paid will be available for you to use for two years from the initial date of issue.  Program credit may not be applied to any amounts previously paid for past or future programs.No credit or refund is available (1) if you cancel the day prior to your arrival day or on your scheduled arrival day, (2) if you do not show up, or (3) if you leave a program or event early. No refund will be available if you attend a program and are dissatisfied with its presentation or content. These provisions also apply to the cancellation of (1) additional nights booked before or after a program’s official arrival and departure dates and (2) housing downgrades.

Materials Fee:

The materials fee for the 2019 SSA III has yet to be confirmed but is estimated at $170.00 USD, not including shipping. This is a required cost, not included in the tuition.

Shambhala Mountain Center encourages all financial aid applicants to seek financial support from The Offering Bowl or other similar fundraising website. You may apply for Financial Aid using the form provided by clicking here. Financial aid cannot be combined with any other form of price-break.Financial Aid applications are due June 13, 2019.

Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown

Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of Contemplative and Religious Studies at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where she has taught since 1978.  As Buddhist practitioner since the early 1970’s, she became a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974, and was empowered as an acharya (senior teacher) by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche in 2000. Her teaching specialties are meditation practice, Shambhala teachings, Buddhist philosophy, tantric Buddhism, and contemplative higher education.  Her book, Dakini’s Warm Breath (Shambhala 2001), explores the feminine principle as it reveals itself in meditation practice and everyday life for women and men.  She has also edited Meditation and the Classroom: Contemplative Pedagogy for Religious Studies (SUNY 2011). She had her husband, Richard, have two adult children and three grandchildren.
